Hi Shadab,
First let me talk about the MBA program at BROCK University.
POLICIES
Before taking admission into any university it is very important as an international student to be aware of the policies and fee structure. So I strongly recommend you to read the student graduate and co-op handbook for MBA-ISP students. Try to read in detail about the academic and fee policies.
Some of the important points that I would like to highlight is,
- You are required to acquire 70 % in order to pass any course in MBA-ISP program
- If you score below passing 70 % in more than 2 courses, you would require to retake a course and one course fee is $2000
- If you score in more than 3 courses below 70 %, you would be sent to undergrad for one year, taking more courses, which would cost around $10,000 (as informed by students who already went to undergrad for one year)
- In order to qualify for co-op, you need to maintain 75 %, if you fail to maintain the score, you will be removed from co-op without any refund of money.
- You will be paying for two insurances, twice: UHIP -$746 and GRAD DENTAL AND HEALTH PLAN – $368
Total = (746+368) x2=$2,228
The snapshot does not include fees like dental and health plan.
CLASS COMPOSITION
Since, it is international MBA program, you class composition will include students from foreign countries. You would not be studying with local Canadian students. So be prepared to expect Chinese, Indian, Bangladeshi, Russians, Iranians, Saudi Arabians (Middle East), in your class.
It is questionable, that why they don’t disclose the class composition as other universities do on their website.
In 2008, MBA class had 43 enrolments, but in 2009, enrolment went up to approximately 90 students.
ST. CATHARINES AND LIVING EXPENSES
One of the positive aspects about living in St Catharines is it is cheaper than big cities like Toronto. Your monthly rent would range from 400-550 dollars (sharing basis). Moreover, bus fee is cheaper which is already paid along with your tuition fees. The negative aspect of living in St Catharines is there are not much local jobs for student. On the other hand, students in Toronto easily find part-time job to earn their living expenses by doing odd jobs. Campus jobs are there, but limited international students successfully get into it.
CO-OP PLACEMENTS
The co-op placement for 2008 batch was around 10. So overall you can say around 15 percent students get co-op job. It depends on your ability and hard work to be in that 15 percent. Whereas other universities give mandatory internships or co-op with fees included in tuition fees.
It is again questionable, that why Brock University does not disclose the total co-op placement as other universities do on their website.
YOUR PROFILE
Since you have already done BBA and have 2 years of work experience, you would have better chances of finding job. However, I cannot assure on whether it would be up to your satisfaction or not. Also, since there is high flow of International students in Canada (due to liberal visa requirements), the job market will be extremely competitive for new international graduates. The supply is very high compared to low demand of work force. Majority (could be about 70%) international students don't get job in the relevant field of their degree or education.
I would advise you to go for finance specialisation as it has more opportunities and demand. Also, be sure that you need to pass few examinations like CMA and CFA in order to practise as professional. Do your own research about related certifications for professional accountants and finance professionals.
If you are ready for GMAT and could acquire good score of 550 or above, I would recommend looking for more alternatives. There are more reputed universities, where you will have more international exposure by studying with local Canadian students. Don’t just fall for what your consultant recommends. Make your own decisions by making good judgement.
Best of luck

Hi there,
I am a student from China. I just got accepted by Brock University in its MBA(ISP) and deposited $3000 dollars into the school and came to Canada for 7 months, but now I kind of want to change my mind of entering this program since I have talked to a few Chinese friends who are taking the program right now at Brock. According to them, most of the students enrolled in the MBA(ISP) are from China and Saudi Arabia, they doesn't feel studying in a Western country. Also, the tuition is higher than that of the local Canadians.
Well, the education is not bad, since instructors, course requirements and expectations are the same as that of the tradition (local) MBA. Now, I need some advice: should I go back to work or continue to study at Brock?
I look forward to hearing from you
Kai
Hi Kai,
The answer lies in your question itself. If you are willing to settle in Canada, getting a job after mba-isp will be of great challenge and struggle. MBA-isp has a very bad placement record according to what I heard from students. If you going back to china, it will be a huge addition to the opportunities having an international degree.
Obviously, it does makes a huge difference if you are studying with local Canadian students. It helps you to build good communication skills and understand Canadian culture and practices. Personally, if i would be an international student, i would opt for course that offers me a western environment and experiences.
If you are willing to study with your own Chinese fellows, you could do so at much less cost in china itself. So look for options and keep an open mind. Brock is not the only university in Canada, there are many other universities that don't differentiate by dividing international and local student classes.
hi..i m from india and i m doing b.com ryt now and i m planning to do mba isp from brock university ..the reason i have chosen brock is that they do no need 16 years of education as i have 15 years...as i read ur comments i have a doubt regarding brock now that whether i will get placed in good company or nt after i spend so much money on mba...do u suggest any other university better than brock from where i can do my mba keeping in view the 16 year education prob..1 more thing i wud like to ask ..as st. catherines is a small town if i dnt live in university residence and live in a rented apartment or basement with my friend ,will i be able to save money ...cost of living acc to brock is 20000 $ for 2 years and the course is only for 16 months
Hi this ravi from india, i ve done my mba marketing from pune university, currently have 5 yrs of work experience. i got call from brocks mba isp for finance and from royal roads master of global management. My consultant is also suggesting me to go for Pre mba course in thompson river university and saying that i would get admission for mba there without Gmat after compleation..!
Please suggest me what should i do ? which option i should go for ? do mba finance have any scope in st catherine? my past work exp is in marketing so shall i get job in st catherine for marketing ?
I would say brock is much better choice compared to thompson river or royal roads university. If you are average student in studies, brock mba will be challenging for you. Brock has very very bad placement records of their mba students compared to other universities in ontario.
Mba finance has very good scope in canada. St catharines is very slow and dead place to build your career. I guarantee that you cannot find a decent job in st catharines after your mba without any co-op help.
Competition is increasing in job market here, so you have to move out of niagara region to toronto or at some instance to alberta, SK provinces for decent job. It heavily depends on your networking skills also.
FORGET ABOUT ST CATHARINES AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH MBA

4. Can you suggest me more universities in Canada for the same program which have better job prospects for an international student. My GMAT score is 450.
